It has been an exciting start to 2019 for the NAIOP SoCal Young Professionals Group (YPG). After a very strong recruitment effort that yielded the most applications we have ever received in the program’s 14-year history, our Recruitment & Selection Committee, led by Jamie Kline along with the YPG Advisors, put together a diverse class of 35 young professionals who will kick off their YPG experience in April.
Our focus for the YPG program continues to be to connect, educate, develop and elevate the next generation of commercial real estate leaders in Southern California. We are proud of recent events that have allowed us to do so.
In February, we held our annual Big for a Day philanthropic event, where we team up with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Orange County to spend a day at Knott’s Berry Farm with “littles” that are on the wait list for a “big.” We had over 20 YPG alumni participate in this heart-warming event and we are very happy to continue our support of this excellent mentorship program.
We also held our 4th annual Kick-Off the New Year event in February, “Havana Nights”. This event began as an idea to encourage spouses and significant others to attend an informal industry event together. This idea has since grown into a celebratory event attended by over 200 people that allows for networking and a deeper connection within our industry.
Havana Nights took place at the Yost Theater in Santa Ana and was a huge success. We are also proud of incorporating a philanthropic element into the event by collecting gently used professional clothing for Working Wardrobes and hosting a swab sample station that collected donor info for potential bone marrow donors that could possibly lead to saving the lives of people suffering from rare diseases! Thank you to our Community Outreach Chair Sean Grubbs for this idea and for making it happen as part of this event.
Finally, we are thrilled to announce that the 3rd Annual Leadership Summit will be on Thursday, March 28th at Hotel Irvine. Our keynote speaker will be Kevin Harrington, an original “shark” from the TV show Shark Tank and an entrepreneur who has helped start 20 companies that have exceeded $100 million in revenue. He is a dynamic speaker that will touch on several ideas, challenge the way we all think and provide us with tools to thrive in the digital economy. In addition to Kevin, we are honored to have Lisa Picard, president and CEO, EQ Office, joining us as our real estate executive speaker. This is a must- attend event for current leaders and those aspiring to grow into leadership to further their development. Registration is now live. Look for more details on the NAIOP SoCal website.
