It has been a busy few months for the NAIOP SoCal YPG Program.
The current class is now past the halfway point of their journey and has been making excellent progress.
In October we held our “Day in the Life” program where the class presented to both undergraduate and graduate level students at UC Irvine. This is meant to be a mutually beneficial experience where the students learn more about the different facets of the commercial real estate industry and the YPG class members have an opportunity to polish their public speaking and presentation skills.
The Curriculum Committee has been busy lining up excellent industry speakers for the upcoming classes and we are looking forward to the unveiling of the site to be used for the Final Project Case Competition in March.
Our Communications Committee, led by Shaena Cushman, is actively improving our social media presence and communication. We now have more than 600 followers on our Instagram handle @ypg_socal. Please follow us to get the latest on upcoming events and let Shaena know if you have an idea for a post. We love promoting real estate deals getting done between NAIOP SoCal YPGers.
In case you missed it (or are still not following us on Instagram!) the Y Games were held on September 28th at Newport Dunes. Over 120 people participated this year and to my knowledge there were no injuries, other than bruised egos. In addition to the fun that was had by all involved, we set a new record by collecting more than 176 gently used professional clothing items for Working Wardrobes.
Our next opportunity for networking is Wednesday, November 7th at the Fall Fling, jointly presented by NAIOP YPG, ULI and CREW, set to take place at Intersect Offices in Irvine from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This has become an annual tradition and the one and only event in SoCal where you will see these three great organizations come together to put on a joint event.
In October, I attended the NAIOP National Conference in Washington DC and was very proud to witness two of our very own receive the National Developing Leaders Award. Keep in mind that there were only seven winners in the country, and NAIOP SoCal received two of them! Congratulations to Chris Drzyzga and Matt Milich and thank you for representing our chapter. Both Chris and Matt are serving on the Alumni Committee this year and we are excited to see them continue to contribute to NAIOP SoCal in the future.
Lastly, I would like to thank our sponsors for their continued support of our programs. We pride ourselves on providing an opportunity to educate, develop, connect and elevate all YPGers, Developing Leaders and NAIOP SoCal members, and we simply could not do this without your support.
Please keep an eye on the website and our Instagram account for more information about upcoming events and opportunities to get involved. The application for the next class will be out in November. Now is a great time to look into taking advantage of all that NAIOP and YPG have to offer.
