Star-Studded Collection of Industry Pros Heat Up Real Estate Challenge: Be There November 15

On November 15, a star-studded collection of industry leaders will be on site to help award our Silver Shovel at the annual NAIOP SoCal USC vs. UCLA Real Estate Challenge. This year we are excited to announce that our Master of Ceremonies will be Voit Chief Executive Officer Eric Hinkelman.

We’ve also announced an outstanding group of judges that includes: Parke Miller, Executive Vice President, Lincoln Property Company; Jim Proehl, President, Western Division, PMRG; David Senden, Principal, KTGY Architecture + Planning; Kevin Shannon, President of West Coast Capital Markets, Newmark Knight Frank; Susan Booth, Partner, Holland & Knight, LLP; Greg Brown, Senior Director, HFF, L.P.; John Buchanan, Economic Development Manager, City of Tustin; and Brian Burdzinski, Chief Financial Officer, Watt Companies.

The graduate student teams from the Ziman Center of Real Estate at UCLA’s Anderson School of Business and the Lusk Center at USC’s Marshall School of Business and Price School of Public Policy are hard at work finalizing plans for the 2018 Real Estate Challenge site.

This year’s site involves an undeveloped parcel on 11 acres of land located at the southwest corner of Del Amo Avenue and Newport Avenue in Tustin. The city acquired the property in 2007 and it has been vacant since that time. The challenge site is a highly visible gateway infill location adjacent to the 55 Freeway and near Tustin Legacy, the 1600-acre former Tustin Marine Corps Air Station, which is currently being redeveloped. The site sits in a planning area of the Pacific Center East Specific Plan which is a major employment center in Tustin that will continue to grow. The student teams are tasked with identifying the highest and best uses that are feasible for this site that is located near a major airport, freeways and beach-proximate neighborhoods.

In addition to the student presentations, the Real Estate Challenge will feature commentary on the upcoming USC vs. UCLA football game by Shane Foley, former USC quarterback, and James Malone, former UCLA linebacker.
